JOHN JACKSON

FAIRFIELD, AL

OVERVIEW

On April 26, 1941, John Jackson, a 30-year-old laborer at the Fairfield Sheet Mill (Fairfield, AL) and Sunday School Teacher, was killed by police officers for laughing. John was standing in line with his date Mary Bell Hill at the local movie theater. The officers beat him while all of the patrons there that evening looked on in horror and then they put him in the back of a police car where Officer Hubert G. Alexander shot him in the chest three times and once in the head.
